What is IPL? Intense pulsed light or IPL is not a laser. It is light energy that is pulsed onto the skin to treat a variety of conditions. Different filters are used to produce light of different wavelenghts that can target specific skin conditions. Dr. Kest uses the Sciton BBL-Broadband Light to perform IPL treatments. How does IPL work? The light energy delivered by the BBL will gently heat up the upper layers of your skin. The heat absorbed will stimulate your skin cells to generate new collagen. This will help restore your skin to its natural beauty, blending its natural colors and making it smoother, vibrant and younger looking. The photothermal energy will eliminate many of the fine vessels that cause redness and the unwanted melanin responsible for pigmented lesions. What conditions can be treated? <ul> <li>Fine lines and wrinkles</li> <li>Age and sun spots</li> <li>Small facial veins and capillaries</li> <li>Rosacea</li> <li>Freckles</li> <li>Red spots (hemangiomas)</li> <li>Enlarged pores</li> <li>Hyperpigmentation and Melasma</li> </ul> What areas can be treated? Any area of your body can be treated. The most common areas are thos most exposed to the sun such as the face, hands, arms and chest. How many treatments will I need? Most patients require 5 treatments performed every 3 weeks. Every patient is different however and your condition may require more or less treatments. Is there down-time? IPL is a no down-time procedure. You will be able to return to work, exercise, apply makeup and resume all of your activites right away. What should I expect after the treatment? You may experience some redness that should resolve within a few hours. For some pigmented lesions you will see a darkening of the treated areas followed by fading and flaking off at a later stage. Your treated skin will feel smoother, fine wrinkles and pores will be less noticeable and sun spots or uneven pigmentation will fade. Will IPL hurt? Most patients describe the treatment as feelings as if there is a rubberband lightly snapping against the skin. Numbing cream is not needed. How long will the treatment take? IPL of the face typically takes about 15 minutes. Can I combine IPL treatments with other procedures and products? Yes.
