Levulan PDT or photodynamic therapy is a FDA approved treatment for actinic keratosis. Levulan PDT will treat lesions that are visible to the eye as well as subclinical spots that are just forming beneath the surface of the skin.
Levulan® Kerastick® is applied to the face where it is preferentially absorbed by damaged skin cells. Intense pulsed light is directed at the skin to activate the medication causing destruction of the damaged skin cells.
After the treatment you will experience mild redness and possible swelling and scaling.
